Program Type:
Making & CraftingProgram Description
Event Details
In this adaptive sewing class led by Carrie Werning, participants will create their own unique stuffed animal or monster out of felt. Skills used will include cutting, simple hand sewing, and stuffing. The goal of the class is for all participants to have fun, engage with peers, and go home with a one-of-a-kind stuffed pal!
Who should sign up? This class welcomes teens ages 14+ and young adults with disabilities. In order to attend alone, participants need to be independent in a group and able to follow 1-2 step directions with prompting or volunteer assistance. If they require additional support, a parent or staff must stay with them.
Registration for this workshop opens May 1 at 8am.
About Carrie
My interest in arts and crafts began early in life, when even as a young child I was surrounded by family members who enjoyed drawing, painting, woodcarving, sewing, knitting, quilting, and more. Creativity is woven into the fabric of my genes! I have worked with individuals with disabilities for over 15 years, in various capacities including teaching at day programs and art centers, providing community support and social skill building, and working in direct care. I believe that creativity is both therapeutic and essential to our wellbeing, and I’m passionate about making the arts more accessible to those who are differently abled. The goal of my classes is to foster independence and build skills, while also creating an environment where everyone feels successful and has fun!
