Program Description

Event Details

Join local children's authors Caroline and Katherine Brickley for a very special storytime event. Children (3rd-6th grade) from the local community are invited to read THEIR stories aloud to a supportive group of fellow young authors, family, and friends.

The hour-long event will begin with a 30-minute storytelling workshop, where participants will learn all about how to read their stories aloud and engage their audience through the art of storytelling. Taking what they've learned, participants will then read their stories aloud and add them to Bibli the Bookshelf — the main character of the Brickley sisters' book The Friendly Bookshelf and the Library's special bookshelf that is dedicated to housing books written by children in the community (We encourage family, friends, and caregivers to join us for this portion of the event!). The event will end with pictures and an opportunity to ask Caroline and Katherine questions about book writing and publishing.

Please note, that this is not a writing workshop. Participants should come in with a completed story that they are excited to read aloud! We encourage children who have participated in Caroline and Katherine's past writing workshops to join us again to read their stories for this very special event!

Accessibility and Accommodations

We strive to facilitate access to information and Library services for all patrons. If you have questions about accessibility or a request for accommodation, please phone 203-594-5002, email the librarian in charge of this program (see contact info above), or email [email protected] with as much lead time as possible.

Youth Participation Guidelines

If your child is under 12 years old, an adult caregiver must remain in the Children’s Room for the duration of the program. If your child finishes a program early, or if a child becomes ill, distressed, or behaves in a manner that interferes with other participants’ enjoyment of the program, they may be released into the Children’s Room before the program’s end time. Please ensure that your child knows exactly where to find you at all times.
