North Woods is the most original and spellbinding novel I’ve read in ages. Mason makes bramble, brush, and orchard come alive with the spirits of their unforgettable former inhabitants. Their lives . . . had me glued to my seat.”—Abraham Verghese, New York Times bestselling author of The Covenant of Water

HONOREE EILEEN THOMAS

EILEEN THOMAS

We are thrilled to honor Eileen Thomas at this year's Literary Luncheon.

Eileen’s relationship with the New Canaan Library began when she was in first grade and often found “lost somewhere in the stacks” at the library instead of catching her ride home from St. Aloysius School. It continued through high school and college where the library nurtured her love of reading and learning as she earned her degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Wharton. In addition to being Vice Chair of the library board, Eileen was a co-chair of the capital campaign that raised $40 million to build the NEW New Canaan Library.  Prior to that, she served as Vice Chair of WIN, a New York City agency providing shelter and services to homeless families after spending her early career at McKinsey. In addition, she serves on the board of New Canaan Mounted Troop and the Congregational Church of New Canaan. Eileen and her husband James have raised four children in New Canaan and are active in many area clubs and organizations. While it is always hard to pin-point a favorite book, she really enjoys the work of Geraldine Brooks and marvels at the powerful storytelling of Barbara Kingsolver in Demon Copperhead.
