New Canaan Library is excited to present a new oil painting series this fall. In this four-session class, students will learn to create a portrait using traditional oil paints. Participants are encouraged to bring a photograph, drawing, or picture they would like to paint. The class will explore the full range of the oil palette, including techniques for mixing colors with brushes and knives, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience. All experience levels are welcome.

Please dress appropriately for oil painting, wearing casual clothes and a smock if you have one.

About the Instructor: Colleen Hains has been painting for over 40 years. Her passion is oil painting, and her two favorite subjects are people and animals. Colleen is currently building a show featuring 24 oil paintings of women over 50 to portray women in their natural beauty. Coleen has studied with Rayma Spaulding, a Hudson River Valley Painter, and at the University of Connecticut School of Art. Colleen recently received a grant from the State of Connecticut to market a vision-impaired painting kit.
