Navigating the Tricky Elements of Memoir Writing Series

Writing a memoir can be tricky, if not frustrating.  Telling personal or familial truths can be emotional and prompts the “editor” in one’s head to intervene and upend the writing project.  This instructional class aims to tame that editor, and to help writers work through the emotions to get their story down on paper.  

Learning helpful writing techniques like sensory writing, embedded dialogue, and the use of environmental elements from the past help to concentrate the narrative arc that frames the memoir.  Creation of storyboards, memory maps and timelines help to keep your writing on track.   

This is a four part series of consecutive Thursday evening classes: April 3, April 10, April 17, and April 24, from 6:30 pm - 8 pm.  Registering for the first class (April 3) will secure your seat in all four classes.  

Laura Woodward Cavers instructs the class and has ten years experience teaching writing at Darien and New Canaan Libraries.  She holds an MFA in Creative Writing.
