Program Description

Event Details

Plato called poetry an imitation of reality and Wordsworth called it a spontaneous overflow of thought and feeling.  How do you define poetry?  Would you like to appreciate it more?  Join us for a casual discussion; no lecture, just reading and interpreting poetry together. This program will meet every other month.  Register today to receive poems for analysis and discussion during the meeting.  This is an ongoing program that will meet every other month.

This meeting will focus on the poems of Joy Harjo, an internationally renowned performer and writer of the Muscogee Nation. She served three terms as the 23rd Poet Laureate of the United States from 2019-2022 and is winner of the Poetry Society of America's 2024 Frost Medal, Yale's 2023 Bollingen Prize for American Poetry, and was recently honored with a National Humanities Medal.

Laura Cavers is the Readers’ Advisor and has been a Writing Instructor at New Canaan Library and Darien Library for over 10 years. She has an MFA in Creative Writing.
